well, my first field day has come and gone. valerie's easin' us into it, so we only spent about 5 hours out in the field. here is a before-the-field picture..
the day was spent first looking for monkeys, and second IDing them after we found them. IDing monkeys is important for data collection... you have to know who is doing what to whom... if you know what i mean... dos leches, blanquita, and kathy lee were all adult females that i could correctly identify... the juveniles and males were a bit harder to ID. you should SEE blanquita's cleavage though... MAN. hot.
below is valerie, my boss, and my fellow monkey researchers-- tamara, jeffrey, and dave!! we're excited.
there are two infants in the Los Valles group. Chai and Thyme. Thyme (Salsa's baby) is so small. They call her Salsa's rat baby shawl... pretty soon all of my conversations are going to be this monkey code, and i'll be talking on my dictaphone, and entering in data on my psion, and gpsing, and using my compass... christopher guest should get a hold of this action while it's hot.
below is the first monkey picture of the field! i think it is nutmeg? maybe? it could be mousse. i get them confused because they are both small immature males..
interwebbing in hammocks, drinking costa rican coffee, and having the forest as your backyard in a tough life.

So, maybe, next year, if I am still jobless, I can be document your adventures. I think I can be the next christopher guest.... here's some material I've been working on:
"Researchers work long hours in the jungle. Watching monkeys is tiring and we get hungry. We spend all that time looking at monkeys and all we can think about is food. You see, this here monkey is named "nutella." I like me some nutella... put it on an english pancake with some bananas. That there is a good desert. That monkey on the top tree over there is "chutney." Have you ever had some mango chutney with papadaums? If not, you are not living."
I'll keep working on it. Got to keep my job options open.
